UWA scholarships

Welcome to the UWA Scholarships page. The Ubasa Wrestling Academy Board of Directors wants everyone to have the opportunity to wrestle, regardless of their situation and/or finances. We are proud to offer scholarships to those in need and to help them start or continue their wrestling career. If your family would like to apply for a yearly scholarship, please complete the form via the link below. Our Board will review the submissions on a case-by-case basis and reply to your request.

One form can be completed per family per registration cycle. Please complete all the required fields with as much detail as you are willing to share with the Board for their review. Please note that the Board may request more clarification and supporting documentation, so prepare the answers before starting the application process.

Application Questions: 

  • Number of adults and children living with you

  • Housing status: Renting, Living with relatives, etc

  • Athlete's GPA

  • Training location: Des Moines, Iowa City, Perry

  • Program level: Beginners, Experienced

  • Athlete's Experience: Former Clubs, years of experience, etc

Required documents: 

  • Tax form 1040 or 2 recent pay stubs showing annual salary

  • Other sources of income: Child support/Alimony/SSI/SSDI/Unemployment Benefits/Rental Income/FIP cash assistance, etc

  • Assisted services: SNAP Food Assistance/WIC/Rental Assistance/Energy Assistance/Childcare Voucher, etc

  • Copy of the athlete's most recent report card, if applicable.

Form Questionnaires: 

  • Athlete's goals for the year

  • Describe your family's scholarship need: financial situation, loss of a parent, loss of a job, etc

  • List your athlete's scholarship need: volunteer work, other sports and activities, etc.

Acceptance of: 

  • Volunteer in club activities​

  • Athlete mentorship, if applicable

  • Club terms and conditions​

 

Scholarships do not include UWA-sponsored clinics or camps. Scholarships may be adjusted based on attendance, effort, behavior, and participation. Do not be discouraged from applying, as even short-term layoffs or seasonal work may be awarded.
